Pay LevelPay BandPosts
Year 1₹30,000/month gross — ₹9,000/month to Seva Nidhi contribution, ~₹21,000/month in-handAgniveer General Duty, Technical, Clerk/Store Keeper Technical, Tradesman, and specialist categories — same package structure across categories
Year 2₹33,000/month gross — ₹9,900/month to Seva Nidhi contributionsame as above
Year 3₹36,500/month gross — ₹10,950/month to Seva Nidhi contributionsame as above
Year 4₹40,000/month gross — ₹12,000/month to Seva Nidhi contribution, ~₹28,000/month in-handsame as above

Figures (₹30,000→40,000 gross progression, 30% individual contribution matched by an equal Government contribution into the Seva Nidhi corpus) match the original 2022 Agnipath scheme announcement and are consistently repeated across sources; risk/hardship, dress, and travel allowances are paid on top.On exit after 4 years, the Seva Nidhi lump sum is commonly cited at ~₹11.71 lakh (tax-exempt) — this includes interest; could not independently verify the exact current interest rate this session, so treat the ₹11.71 lakh figure as approximate/commonly-cited rather than freshly confirmed against a primary PIB release.

Exam Pattern

Not confirmed The exam pattern below has not been confirmed from the official notice currently available to GovBabu — it may change.

1 hour for the 50-question format (typically General Duty/Tradesman-type entries); 2 hours for the 100-question format (typically Technical/Clerk entries requiring more subjects, e.g. Science stream). · Negative Marking: +2 marks per correct answer, -0.5 mark per wrong answer (i.e., -1/4 of the marks awarded per question) — this figure is the most consistently reported, though some sources cite -0.25 flatly; treat the -0.5-per-wrong-answer figure (against +2 correct) as the better-supported one. · Passing Marks: N/A — merit-based ranking; CEE score plus PFT/PMT (qualifying stages) determine final merit, with no single fixed passing percentage published for the written CEE.

SectionDetails
CEE (shorter format)50 questions/100 marks, 60 minutes — General Knowledge, Mathematics, General Science, Logical Reasoning (mix and question count depends on entry category)
CEE (longer format)100 questions/200 marks, 120 minutes — same broad subjects plus additional Physics/Chemistry-heavy content for Technical entries
Physical Fitness Test (PFT)Qualifying — 1.6 km run (timed), pull-ups, 9-ft ditch jump, zig-zag balance (varies by category/group)
Physical Measurement Test (PMT)Qualifying — height, weight, chest measurement per regional/category norms
Medical ExaminationQualifying — per Army medical standards

Selection Process

Online CEE (Common Entrance Examination, CBT/MCQ) — one written test for all Agniveer entry streams (General Duty, Technical, Clerk/Store Keeper, Tradesman) but the number of questions/duration differs by the entry stream's education requirement — followed by Physical Fitness Test (PFT), Physical Measurement Test (PMT), Medical Exam, and Document Verification (Rally/Screening phase).

Career

Official Agnipath policy.

  • After the 4-year engagement, up to 25% of each batch of Agniveers may apply for the permanent/regular cadre (based on performance, discipline and organisational requirement)
  • Those selected continue under regular Army terms — about a 15-year engagement, with further promotion eligibility
  • The remaining ~75% exit with the Seva Nidhi lump sum, a skill certificate, and priority consideration for some government/paramilitary jobs — this is priority only, not a guaranteed job

NoteAgnipath is a 4-year tour-of-duty scheme distinct from pre-2022 permanent enrollment — do not confuse Agniveer terms (Seva Nidhi, 25% retention) with older regular-soldier pension/pay rules. This entry covers ARMY Agniveer only.Navy (Agniveer) and Air Force (Agniveer Vayu) run separate CEEs/portals and are comparably large in relative terms (Navy/Air Force together budget ~6,000 seats/year vs Army's ~40,000) — worth adding as separate entries later for full tri-service coverage.Applicant volume: ~12.8 lakh applicants in 2024 (up ~10% from 11.3 lakh in 2023), per Army recruitment data reported by ThePrint — Army-only, not tri-service.

FAQs

Is the Agniveer CEE the same test for every trade (General Duty, Technical, Clerk)?

No — while all use the same CEE format broadly, the number of questions (50 vs 100), duration, and subject emphasis differ depending on the entry category and its educational requirement (e.g., Technical entries lean more on Physics/Chemistry/Maths).

Does clearing the CEE guarantee selection?

No, CEE clearance only qualifies you for the Physical Fitness Test, Physical Measurement Test, and Medical Exam — final merit combines CEE marks with clearing these qualifying stages, and you can still be rejected at PFT/PMT/Medical even after a good CEE score.

Is there a document screening/rally before the CEE, or after?

The process generally begins with an online CEE, and only candidates who clear it are called for the Rally-based Physical Fitness Test, Physical Measurement Test, and Document Verification — it is not rally-first for the current CEE-based system introduced under Agnipath.

Do all four years of Agniveer service guarantee a permanent Army job afterward?

No — under the Agnipath scheme, only a fixed percentage (commonly cited as up to 25%) of each batch is selected for permanent enrolment after the 4-year term, based on performance; the rest exit with the Seva Nidhi package. (This percentage figure was not independently re-verified — confirm against the current joinindianarmy.nic.in policy if quoting it as fact.)
