Compress PDF

Shrink a PDF to the size an upload form allows. Choose the PDF, set the target size in KB and download the smaller file.

🔒 Files are processed in your browser and are not uploaded to GovBabu servers.

How to use

  1. Click the upload box and choose a PDF.
  2. Enter the target size in KB. The minimum is 20 KB.
  3. Click Process and download the smaller PDF.

What to expect

  • Each file can be up to 15 MB.
  • Each page is drawn as an image and re-saved as a JPEG at the highest quality that fits its share of the target size. Pages with a lot of detail can lose sharpness.
  • The result is rebuilt from page images, so text inside the original PDF will not be selectable or searchable.
  • If the target cannot be reached, the result is labelled “Closest possible” with its actual size.
  • This tool loads the open-source pdf.js reader from a public CDN the first time it is used; that fetches the reader code, not your file.

Common questions

Why can I not select text in the compressed PDF?

Compression works by turning each page into an image, which is what makes the file small. The text is still visible but is no longer real text.

What if my PDF is still too big?

Try a higher target if the form allows it, or use Split PDF to send only the pages that are needed.

Is my PDF uploaded anywhere?

No. Your file is processed by your browser; only the pdf.js reader code is downloaded.
