Exam Pattern

Negative Marking: N/A — no written exam, merit list only. · Passing Marks: N/A — no written exam, merit list only. (Category-wise and circle-wise numerical cutoff percentages of Class 10 marks are declared after each recruitment cycle/merit list, similar to a merit-based cutoff, but there is no exam to "pass" or "fail.")

This is well-corroborated across multiple sources (English editions and other secondary sources) — India Post GDS recruitment has used the 10th-marks-only merit system for years, with multiple merit lists released per cycle (e.g., 6 merit lists were released through 2025 for one recruitment cycle) and ties broken by candidate age (older preferred).

Selection Process

NO WRITTEN EXAM.Selection is entirely merit-list-based on Class 10th (Matriculation/SSLC) board exam aggregate marks — there is no CBT, OMR test, descriptive paper, or interview of any kind.India Post prepares circle-wise and category-wise automatic merit lists purely by 10th-standard marks percentage, followed by document verification of shortlisted candidates.

FAQs

Do I need to take any test or interview for GDS recruitment?

No — there is no written exam, computer test, or interview at all. Selection is based purely on your Class 10th board exam marks percentage, ranked circle-wise and category-wise.

How is the merit list calculated if my 10th-grade board used a different marking scheme (grades vs percentages)?

India Post has a standard formula to convert CGPA/grades to an equivalent percentage for boards that don't award raw percentages — check the specific year's notification for the exact conversion table, since this detail affects your calculated merit score directly.

What happens after I appear in a merit list?

You must complete document verification at your allotted post office/postal division (typically within about 15 days of the list being published); provisional selection becomes final only after successful verification of your original certificates.

If I don't feature in the first merit list, is my application rejected?

Not necessarily — India Post releases multiple sequential merit lists per recruitment cycle (to fill vacancies left by non-joiners or rejected candidates), so candidates already in the applicant pool can appear in later lists too.
