FAQs

Is Tier I of SSC CGL just a qualifying round, or does its score count toward the final merit?

Tier I is used only to shortlist candidates for Tier II — the final selection merit is built from Tier II (Paper I, plus Paper II only for Junior Statistical Officer aspirants).

Why does each section in Tier I have its own 15-minute limit instead of one 60-minute pool?

SSC locks each 25-question section to exactly 15 minutes so candidates can't spend extra time on a strong section at the expense of a weak one — you must move on when the section timer ends even if time remains unused.

Do I need to clear the Computer Knowledge and typing modules separately, or do they add to my score?

They're qualifying only — you must clear the minimum standard (and, for Tax Assistant posts, hit the required typing speed), but marks from these modules are not added to your merit score.

Is the application fee different for different posts within CGL?

No — the Rs 100 fee (with the standard women/SC/ST/PwBD/ESM exemptions) applies uniformly regardless of which CGL posts you opt for; only the Tier II paper combination differs by post (JSO vs all other posts).
