Some details below are not confirmed — check the official notification ↗
CBT-1: 60 minutes. CBT-2 Part A: 90 minutes, Part B: 60 minutes. (PwBD candidates get extra time per rules.) · Negative Marking: -1/3 (0.33) mark per wrong answer in CBT-1 and CBT-2 (Parts A and B); no negative marking in CBAT. · Passing Marks: N/A — merit-based/normalized ranking for CBT-2 Part A; Part B (Trade test) has a fixed qualifying threshold of 35% for all categories, but does not itself contribute marks to merit.
| Section | Details |
|---|---|
| CBT-1 | 75 questions/75 marks — Mathematics, General Intelligence & Reasoning, General Science, General Awareness/Current Affairs (screening only, not counted in final merit) |
| CBT-2 Part A | 100 questions/90 minutes — Mathematics, Basic Science & Engineering, General Awareness, General Intelligence & Reasoning (counts toward merit) |
| CBT-2 Part B | 75 questions/60 minutes — Relevant Trade syllabus (qualifying, minimum 35% required to allow Part A marks to count) |
| CBAT | Qualifying only, no negative marking, not added to merit score |
Figures agree across multiple secondary sources (secondary sources, moderate-high confidence); the RRB CDG official notification PDF could not be fetched directly (certificate/hostname errors), so treat exact marks split as indicative rather than verbatim-confirmed for the latest CEN.

FAQs
If I score well in CBT-2 Part A but do poorly in the trade test (Part B), will I still be selected?
Only if you clear the minimum 35% qualifying mark in Part B — if you fall short there, your Part A marks are not considered at all regardless of how high they are.
Does CBAT actually affect my final merit rank?
No, CBAT is purely qualifying (pass/fail) for ALP; it does not add marks to your final merit score, unlike CBT-2 Part A.
Can I choose which trade syllabus to prepare for CBT-2 Part B?
No, the trade paper is fixed based on the trade option you selected at the time of application, so choose that option carefully before applying.
Is there negative marking in the CBAT stage?
No, CBAT has no negative marking — it is scored purely as qualify/disqualify.
