Who Can Apply

QualificationPassed Class 12 (Intermediate) or equivalent from a recognized board.
Age
  • Base general-category limit: 18–22 years (male) / 18–25 years (female), as on 01 Jul 2026
  • UP govt separately announced a one-time extra 3-year age relaxation for this cycle, across all categories
  • The cutoff and reference date shift every cycle — verify against the live notification
Age RelaxationSC/ST/OBC candidates get standard reservation-category age relaxation on top of the general limit, plus the UP government's one-time +3-year relaxation (order dated ~5 Jan 2026) that applies across all categories for this cycle.Multiple secondary sources, consistent with a government news-service item (newsonair.gov.in, 5 Jan 2026), agree the reserved-category (SC/ST/OBC) ceiling BEFORE the special +3-year order is 31 years (male) / 34 years (female), and AFTER it is applied the resulting upper limits are 34 years (male) / 37 years (female) — this corrects a previous reading, which had mislabeled the pre-relaxation 31/34 figures as the post-relaxation numbers.Still not confirmed against the official PDF itself, so treat as approximate. Exam Pattern

Not confirmed The exam pattern below has not been confirmed from the official notice currently available to GovBabu — it may change.

2 hours · Negative Marking: DISPUTED — most recent sources (Dec 2025 UP cabinet decision, amended UP Police Constable and Head Constable Service (Fourth Amendment) Rules 2025) say negative marking was ABOLISHED for the 2026 cycle (no deduction for wrong answers). Older/some current aggregator pages still show 0.5 mark deducted per wrong answer. Confidence: medium — treat "no negative marking" as the current rule for the 2026 exam (written exam held June 2026), but flag this as changed-recently and worth re-verifying at publish time. · Passing Marks: N/A — merit-based cutoff, declared after each exam, no fixed qualifying % found for the written stage. PST/PET are pass/fail qualifying stages (no fixed numeric cutoff reported beyond meeting physical standards/timings).

Career

Not independently verified against an official UPPRPB promotion-rules document.

  • Standard UP Police hierarchy: Constable → Head Constable → Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) → Sub-Inspector (SI)
  • Promotion happens departmentally, by seniority, over a career

FAQs

Is there negative marking in the UP Police Constable exam?

For the 2026 recruitment cycle, UP government reportedly abolished negative marking via a late-2025 rule amendment — each correct answer is worth 2 marks and wrong answers are not penalized. This is a recent change, so double-check your specific notification/admit card instructions before the exam.

Do the physical test (PST/PET) marks count toward my final merit, or are they just qualify/disqualify?

They are qualifying only — you must clear the height/chest/weight standards (PST) and the running requirement (PET) to proceed, but your final merit rank is decided by written exam marks, not physical test performance.

What running distance and time do I need to clear PET?

Male candidates must run 4.8 km within 25 minutes; female candidates must run 2.4 km within 14 minutes. Missing the cutoff disqualifies you regardless of your written exam score.

Is the UP Police Constable written exam online (computer-based) or offline (pen-and-paper OMR)?

It is an offline OMR-sheet-based test, not a computer-based test — you mark answers by hand on an OMR sheet, which is later scanned for evaluation.
