FAQs

Does the UPPSC Prelims score carry forward to the final merit list?

No. Prelims (both GS Paper I and the CSAT Paper II) is only a qualifying/screening stage. Your final rank is decided purely by Mains + Interview marks.

What happens if I don't clear the 33% cutoff in Prelims Paper II (CSAT)?

You're eliminated regardless of your Paper I score — Paper II is qualifying-only, but you must clear the fixed 33% threshold to have Paper I even considered for the Prelims cutoff.

Is UPPSC Mains entirely descriptive, or are there objective papers too?

Mains is entirely descriptive/subjective (handwritten answers), covering General Hindi, Essay, and multiple General Studies and optional-subject papers — there's no negative marking at this stage since it's not MCQ-based.

How many attempts or age relaxation categories does UPPSC allow?

This varies by category (General/OBC/SC/ST/PwD/domicile) and changes across notifications — check the specific year's official notification on uppsc.up.nic.in rather than relying on a fixed number, since UPPSC does not publish a single unchanging attempt limit the way UPSC does.
